Pi Delta Psi Facebook Networking Group

Special thanks to Ricky “Red Tide” Ly for creating the Pi Delta Psi Facebook Networking group. The national networking group is for both actives and alumni with the hope of providing an easy forum for brothers to connect with each other. Although it has only been 1 month, many brothers were able to leverage our network. A group of brothers has even come together to form a real estate venture. Many brothers also gave personal introductions, showing a wide diversity of industries, experiences, and interests.

However, this is only the beginning. We are working on a more powerful dedicated networking platform that will build off of the Facebook networking group that allow for better searching and provide a more efficient way of broadcasting and subscribing to new opportunities to network. For now, another special thanks to Magesh “Trident” Alagiriraj who created a google spreadsheet to capture this data in the interim so we can load it into this new platform.

Board of Directors (BOD)

Call for National Executive Board Nominations
The Board of Directors is calling upon individuals for nomination to the National Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Recorder, and Treasurer). A new National Executive Committee will be implemented this upcoming convention (sometime in August – date and location to be released by the current National Executive Committee). As we are rebuilding this Fraternity, we are looking for candidates to bring fresh and new ideas and leadership.

In the past two years, we have had little to no volunteers for the National Board, this has placed much stress on the handful of Brothers who have continually stepped forward to run several roles within this organization. Without adequate support to running National, there is a strong probability that National will cease operations.

To dispel some misconceptions over personal liability, legal counsel has advised that officers of the National Board do not incur personal liability for acts or omissions transacted on behalf of the fraternity in the course of everyday business. Furthermore, the fraternity obtains general liability insurance coverage annually.  The BOD is exploring additional directors and officers insurance policy.

An exception to the rule that officers do not generally incur personal liability, is if an officer engages in extremely risky or dangerous behaviors which rise to the level of being intentional, reckless, fraudulent, or other such acts. Personal liability is not a realistic risk if an officer does not engage in any of the above type behaviors. For additional legal inquiries, please contact Kevin Chiu, Director of Legal Affairs, at kevin.chiu@pideltapsi.com.

If you are interested in a National position or if you are interested in helping in any way, please submit a letter of intent along with a resume to the Board of Directors (bod@pideltapsi.com) and cc Kenny Moy (Kenny.moy@pideltapsi.com).

Financial Oversight by the Board of Directors
Many brothers had expressed concern about where the donations will be going. The Board of Directors will be providing oversight over spending with the utmost scrutiny to ensure that the donations will be used appropriately, and there will be much more emphasis placed on financial transparency. Currently, donations have not been spent, however it will be used to subsidize paying for the 2015 insurance policy and budgeting for potential legal fees. Additional expenditures will be communicated in the next update and at the Summer Convention.

Founder’s Toast – Thursday, February 26th, 2015
Many brothers across the country celebrated together to commemorate the fraternity’s 21st year and to recognize the hard work of the founding fathers and the founders of each chapter. The event was a great opportunity to catch up on old times and to meet new brothers.

Establishing an Alumni Association
Our fraternity has now surpassed 2,400 brothers, and has over 2,000 alumni. Alumni have different needs, focuses, and a risk profile from the actives, and in recognizing this, it is now time to form a separate Alumni Association to not only tend to the needs and interest of the Alumni, but also to provide an avenue for Alumni to be able to better support actives across the nation.

Quick Highlights on National Projects

  • A team is working on setting up a 501(c)(3) Pi Delta Psi Foundation to establish an Asian Youth Mentoring Program to provide leadership training and focus on issues with mental health and bullying. It is our hope that by molding the leaders of tomorrow at the high school level, when they graduate and go to college, they can become future members of Pi Delta Psi or start strong chapters in new schools.
  • The Alumni Focus Group had a kickoff meeting on Tuesday, 2/24 and had a very frank, but lively discussion about the future of the fraternity and where to go from here. The focus group has been divided into 3 focused committees, and will form the foundation of the new Alumni Association:
    • Fundraising
    • Organizational Structure
    • Ideas/Events
  • The technology team is working on converting our legacy reporting system (CSR) into an online system that will be able to provide real-time data to track chapter progress and combined with a New Member Education Online system, will automatically insert newly crossed brothers into the national roster. Both the Online CSR and NME systems are on track to be rolled out in time for the Fall 2015 class.

We continue to cooperate with the proper entities and ask all individual members involved to come forward in aiding the investigation.
