The History of the GWU Associate Chapter
Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded at The George Washington University on November 15, 2003 by six men: Mr. William Chen, Mr. Yen-lin Alan Chen, Mr. Jeffrey Chang, Mr. Alan Jaw, Mr. Richard Chin, and Mr. Roy Guinto, Jr. These men felt that GWU, while an excellent institution, was missing a brotherhood that focused on uniting men of Asian descent, as well as those interested in Asian culture. Their goal was to bring an organization to GWU that would accomplish this goal, while at the same time providing the community with a group of men who were reliable and interested in supporting the community.

Located in Washington DC's Foggy Bottom, The George Washington University is an internationally known educational and research institution. GW consists of nine schools which entrust well over 70 majors to advance their students not only academically, but for the real world as well. George Washington boasts famous programs not only in political science, but through programs such as journalism through their Media and Public Affairs school, and international affairs in the famous Elliot School of International Affairs.

One of the greatest strengths that the George Washington University possess is that fact that its campus is literally situated in the heart of Washington DC. As Princeton Review says, "The University places a heavy emphasis on internships that land many of these politically oriented students in congressional offices on Capitol Hill or at lobbying firms on K Street." Hard-working, politically conscious, and diverse, the students of The George Washington University are enveloped in an environment which fruit future leaders.

Our Slice of the Pi
The four pillars of Pi Delta Psi are Academic Achievement, Cultural Awareness, Righteousness, and Friendship/Loyalty. Briefly describe how your chapter has upheld and promoted these 4 objectives since inception.

Academic Achievement
We at GW realize that while empowering the Asian American community may be a noble endeavor, we must keep in mind why we're in college to begin with. Members of our chapter are involved with various honors societies, such as the Order of Omega and Phi Beta Kappa.

Cultural Awareness
Cultural Awareness is definitely the pillar we take personally around here. From cultural cook-outs (a yearly, university-wide event inspired by the notorious Iron Chef program) to greasing ourselves up for culture shows, we do whatever it takes to send a strong message: though we may be a minority group, the Asian-American community refuses to be cast into the stereotypical mold of passivity.

Righteousness through Philanthropy

Everybody wanna be like... Taeho...
The George Washington University Associate chapter focuses upon its surrounding areas needs as well as concern for national causes. Since the chapter's inception in 2003 we have started and participated in a plethora of philanthropy events. Included within these events includes a weekly PB+J sandwich making event which replenishes the depleted reserves within Martha’s Table, a local food bank. Another event which we participate yearly in is the Washington Aids Walk to help raise money to find a cure for AIDS. Also, we have been directly involved in the past with aiding displaced Katrina victims: we held a PB+J event for Katrina refugees in DC's Arsenal. Through hosting and participating in events in DC we help those in need around us and beyond. Much like Batman, we will continue in our pursuit for a better world through service.

Friendship/Loyalty through Brotherhood
Our chapter believes that when it comes down to it, this is what it's all about. Through thick and thin, through the highs and the lows, this pillar stands firm through it all. This theory is tried and true on a daily basis as we live our lives, together. From the outside looking in, especially at the way we take care of each other and the way we work together at events, you may be fooled into thinking that we're of the same blood; genetically grouped together before we even took in our first breaths, destined to coexist. But the brotherhood within this chapter and across the nation, the one that we all share and hold close to our hearts isn't of blood. It's much thicker than that.

Chapter Goals
Describe what goals the chapter wishes to achieve this semester and how it hopes to achieve them.

While the overarching goal of our chapter is to live the mission of Pi Delta Psi, there are many tangible things our chapter would like to accomplish.

One major goal of our chapter is to become a staple in the Asian community at GW. Specifically, we want to help strengthen each Asian cultural organization by not only participating in events, but providing the glue that keeps the community together. Our brothers come from various cultural backgrounds, and the fact that we share the bond of brotherhood allows us to teach each other about our own cultures and allows for brothers to participate in organizations that are different than their respective ethnicity.

Another goal of our chapter is to help make the Washington, DC metropolitan area a strong location when it comes to Asian American Greek organizations. With many colleges in and around the city, we hope to create strong bonds between the Asian American Greek organizations that will help strengthen each respective chapter.

Finally, our major goal is to help bring Asian American Studies to GW's campus. While this goal is a long way off, the fact that GW is in the political heart of this country means that we have a unique opportunity to help the Asian American community. In order to do this, we need to have professors and courses at our university that encourage students to think about Asian Americans and the issues relating to the many communities within. Pi Delta Psi is an Asian Cultural Fraternity, and we have an excellent opportunity to help it develop into an organization that is a force to be reckoned with.
