The History of the Lambda Chapter
With such a large Asian population at Rutgers University 9 men sought to bring together an organization where Asian men can unite under one bond. They wanted an organization that would educate those around them on Asian culture and heritage while breaking down walls that separate the Asian community. With the help of a brother who transferred from another school, these 9 men envisioned a brotherhood where one can seek cultural diversity without losing their individuality.

As they continuously dedicate their time to help breakdown any negative stereotypes set upon Asians throughout the years, they realized that a family was born at Rutgers. Together, under one voice, they created a lifelong bond that will never be broken.

Our Slice of the Pi
The four pillars of Pi Delta Psi are Academic Achievement, Cultural Awareness, Righteousness, and Friendship/Loyalty. Briefly describe how your chapter has upheld and promoted these 4 objectives since inception.

Academic Achievement
Academics have always been of the utmost importance. We have continuously strived to achieve success within our field of study. Each brother understands that hard work and dedication cements a solid foundation. By educating ourselves we become role models for future generations who will be able to reap the benefits and rewards of our efforts. Education is a necessity for becoming leaders in life.

Cultural Awareness

Brothers with Asian Activist Helen Zia.
Culture is what sets us apart from other Asian fraternities. We believe that culture is the key element that unites us all together under one cause; therefore we strive to emphasize the importance of our background. Not many people understand our background nor do they take the time to realize how rich our history is. That is why we take the time to help educate those that are willing to learn. Last semester alone, we participated or had brothers involved in events such as China Night (Chinese Student Organization), Asian Expo (DAWA), Culture Night (Mu Sigma Upsilon), various RTSA events (Rutgers Taiwanese Student Association) and the kickoff of Asian Heritage Month (Asian Cultural Center).

Righteousness through Philanthropy
Throughout each semester, we fulfill our responsibilities in community service not through obligation but rather for the satisfaction of giving back to a community who has supported us through the years. We each dedicate our time and energy to help those less fortunate. By hosting events and fundraisers we were able to raise money to help support other organizations and their causes. We have participated regularly at soup kitchens, nursing homes, day care centers and events such as March of Dimes.

Friendship/Loyalty through Brotherhood

A few Brothers at this year's National BBQ & Conference.
Anyone can define the word brotherhood but there are those who truly encompass the meaning of the word. To us, the word "brotherhood" goes far beyond the dictionary definition where words cannot express. It is a feeling of knowing that there is an invincible bond that connects us which will never fade. In a sense, brotherhood has provided a support system where loyalty and friendship are unquestionable. Through both social and fraternity related events, we are always in contact with other chapters/colonies and will always extend towards them our full support.

Chapter Goals
Describe what goals the chapter wishes to achieve this semester and how it hopes to achieve them.

Every semester we set higher standards and goals, which we strive to achieve. This year we plan to seek recognition from the university, build stronger relations with other Greek organizations and continue to educate the student body on our rich Asian culture.
At Rutgers, there is only so much that could be done do to reach out to the student population due to restrictions placed upon us by the university. By seeking recognition from the university new doors of opportunities will be open to us to reach out to the students at Rutgers. Recognition will give us a voice to speak out on issues and make our opinions heard. Recognition is a priority; it is the first step towards making Pi Delta Psi a vital organization here at the university. Another primary goal is the continuation to build solid relations with other Greek organizations. This will allow us to closely interact on issues that pertain to all of us. We want others to know how serious we are and gain their support. This past semester, we attended and supported events hosted by the Greek organizations on campus and in return they have offered us their support. We will continue to attend these events and in the near future hold an event with these organizations.

We are constantly striving to educate everyone on our culture. Next year, we plan to attend and participate in several cultural events where others will have the chance to experience part of our heritage. We will continue on this path of success that we have taken throughout the 3 years at Rutgers University.
